Creative Breakthroughs is enjoying a, well, you know, breakthrough, these days now that it has received a hefty state tax break to make an even bigger investment in its Troy office that should lead to dozens of new hires.
Gov. Jennifer Granholm said Tuesday that gubernatorial candidates are misguided if they call for eliminating or reducing state tax credits used to attract businesses to Michigan.
"Those who say we should not go after these companies with tax incentives would have us unilaterally disarm," Granholm said.
She also said Michigan's business tax climate has improved significantly since she became governor, based on state rankings by the Tax Foundation, a nonprofit watchdog group based in Washington.
Creative Breakthroughs, Inc. (CBI), a leader in providing network security consulting, software integration and compliance management advisory services, has announced today the recent growth in its professional services team devoted to supplying Symantec solutions and consulting services to their customers. CBI is expanding its services and sales teams to meet the pending demand for consulting service support for Symantec technology.
Symantec is getting out of the consulting business. Beginning Monday, partners will be able to perform security and storage assessments and architectural engagements for customers free of conflict or revenue sharing obligations with Symantec.

Welcome To Symantec PartnerEngage 2009
This year, Symantec brought in almost 400 of its top VARs, LARs and distributors to attend its annual partner conference, PartnerEnage 2009, at the beautiful JW Marriott in Orlando, Fla. During the three-day conference, from Nov. 4 to Nov. 6, Symantec channel partners came away with new channel tools, a new services strategy and a brand new set of culinary skills. Here are a few scenes from the show.
Responsibility. Resolve. Resourcefulness.
The list of qualities the very best executives demonstrate goes on and on. But first and foremost is a keen sense of leadership. Of knowing what needs to be done and doing it, unflinchingly, taking a never-give-up attitude to its logical conclusion. This year’s crop of Corp! magazine’s Michigan Top Executives is no exception. Once nominated, the list of individuals are further scrutinized and screened. And what remains are those who any company would be proud to consider their own.

I had a chance to visit Friday with Steve Barone, president and CEO of the Troy IT security provider Creative Breakthroughs Inc. and his relatively new vice president of marketing, Russell Chick.
Nice to hear from a company where things are going well, and CBI is certainly in that boat.
Barone said sales for his company rose 60 percent from 2007 to 2008.
The fact that 80 percent of the company's business is outside the automotive sector, and more than half of its business has been outside Michigan since 2006, probably has something to do with that.
